Tracey A. Wood is a Wisconsin attorney who has focused her practice on defending the rights of those accused of criminal charges and fighting for those who are seeking appeals. She was the first attorney in Wisconsin, and one of only two from Wisconsin, ever appointed to the Board of Regents for the National College for DUI Defense.
She is a past president of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the state’s largest organization of criminal defense lawyers, as well as a past president of Dane County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. She chairs the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Strike Force, representing attorneys facing sanctions resulting from their zealous representation of their clients. She is also an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is Wisconsin’s only attorney appointed to the Amicus Committee of the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD).
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, Attorney Wood was admitted to the state bar in 1993. Throughout her career, she has received a number of awards and honors for her achievements, including Superlawyers lists and top lists 10 years running, Madison’s Best Criminal Defense Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America for criminal defense, DUI defense and criminal appellate work in Wisconsin, America’s Best Drunk-Driving Defense Lawyers, and Top 25 Women in Law.
Highly regarded for her criminal defense and appellate work, she has also developed a reputation within the Wisconsin legal community for her expertise in the field of OWI law. She has written several articles on drunk-driving defense for highly regarded legal publications and contributed to “Drunk Driving Defense,” a book believed to be the definitive resource on OWI laws. She is also a field sobriety test instructor, having taken more training than the vast majority of police officers in the field. Attorney Wood is also an accomplished appeals attorney, having won a number of cases in both the Wisconsin Appellate System and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.
She was reappointed to the National College for DUI Defense Amicus committee–the one that files briefs in the United States Supreme Court and elsewhere to promote the effective defense of drunk driving.
One thing that sets Attorney Wood apart from many other lawyers in the field is her proactive approach to criminal defense. As soon as you retain Attorney Wood as an attorney, she will begin investigating your case in order to develop the best possible defense.
